Prove that the following rational numbers are equal:
\(\frac{2}{3}\) and \(\frac{4}{6}\)
SOLUTION
The two given rational numbers are \(\frac{2}{3}\) and \(\frac{4}{6}\).
In \(\frac{4}{6}\), 4 and 6 have a common factor 2. So divding both numerator and denominator by 2, we get
\(\frac{4}{6} = \frac{\frac{4}{2}}{\frac{6}{2}} = \frac{2}{3}\)
Hence, \(\frac{2}{3}\) and \(\frac{4}{6}\) are equal.
