Prove that the following rational numbers are equal:
\(\frac{5}{4}\) and \(\frac{10}{8}\)
SOLUTION
The two given rational numbers are \(\frac{5}{4}\) and \(\frac{10}{8}\).
In \(\frac{10}{8}\), 10 and 8 have a common factor 2. So divding both numerator and denominator by 2, we get
\(\frac{10}{8} = \frac{\frac{10}{2}}{\frac{8}{2}} = \frac{5}{4}\)
Hence, \(\frac{5}{4}\) and \(\frac{10}{8}\) are equal.
