QUESTION 1

Easy
Prove that the following rational numbers are equal:
\(\frac{9}{3}\) and \(3\)
SOLUTION
The two given rational numbers are \(\frac{9}{3}\) and \(3\).
In \(\frac{9}{3}\), 9 and 3 have a common factor 3. So divding both numerator and denominator by 2, we get
\(\frac{9}{3} = \frac{\frac{9}{3}}{\frac{3}{3}} = \frac{3}{1} = 3\)
Hence, \(\frac{9}{3}\) and \(3\) are equal.
In \(\frac{9}{3}\), 9 and 3 have a common factor 3. So divding both numerator and denominator by 2, we get
\(\frac{9}{3} = \frac{\frac{9}{3}}{\frac{3}{3}} = \frac{3}{1} = 3\)
Hence, \(\frac{9}{3}\) and \(3\) are equal.
